Capilano Honey was founded by apiarist J.C. (Tim) Smith MBE and his brother H.A. (Bert) Smith in 1953, who began the business by packing and selling their Capilano brand honey to grocery stores around Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Over the next twenty years, Capilano Honey expanded to interstate and international markets and became an unlisted public company in 1974. Capilano currently exports to 38 countries around the globe and in 2000, Calkins & Burke Limited became the exclusive agent in Canada for Capilano Honey Limited.

Capilano honey undergoes a stringent quality assurance process before dispatch to Canada. A high speed clarifier separates the bee particles and wax from the honey to ensure a clear and pure honey consistency.

In 2001, Capilano also developed the revolutionary Upside Down pack, which features the lid at the bottom of the pack and a pressure sensitive valve system. This style of packaging means that the honey is always ready to be used with no mess and no drips.

Capilano Honey has packing plants in Australia, Argentina and Canada to meet the demand, quality and continuity of supply required by supermarkets in today's world.

Capilano Honey

The name "Capilano" has a nostalgic connection. It means `rushing water' in the language of the Native Indian tribe, the Squamish, who occupied the Capilano District in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.

It was here that company founder Tim Smith met his wife, Jill, while stationed in Canada as a RAAF flying instructor in World War II.
